Top New Year’s Resolutions for Your Home
In the spirit of the New Year, I've compiled a list of 'home resolutions' to help you keep your favorite space organized, clean and energy-friendly for the coming year. Take a look at my top five New Year's resolutions for your home:
Cut Down Your Home’s Carbon Footprint
Protecting the environment has become increasingly more important. So, how can you reduce your home's carbon footprint? Consider reducing the amount of water and electric energy your home consumes. When you leave home, ensure you have turned off all the lights. Consider installing new, energy-saving light bulbs and showerheads. Not only will these improvements help preserve the environment, but they will also cut down the amount you spend on home bills every month.
Home Improvement Projects
Realistically, your home is always going to need some improvements throughout the year. While some projects will just pop up, here are a couple that you can complete at the beginning of the year: rearrange the furniture in your living room to stimulate conversation and communication, replace air filters, clean and improve the HVAC ductwork system, etc.
Manage you Home Finances
Start out 2017 by creating a budget. The budget should include everything from food to electric to mortgage loan payments, and more! Don't forget to include home improvement projects in the budget – these will arise throughout the year, and you'll be happy you have some money already budgeted to remedy the issue. Also, consider shopping around for lower prices on your homeowner's insurance or electric rates. You could find a better deal, but you'll never know unless you look.
A clean house means a fresh start for the New Year. Consider creating more storage space – stashing items in storage bins could make your home feel larger than before. Just get rid of things you don't need, don't wear, or don't use. Useless items just make a home feel more cluttered than needed!
Create a Weekly Cleaning Schedule
Start out the New Year by creating a weekly cleaning schedule – and, try to stick to it!
