8 Home Design Predictions for 2018

As we transition to a New Year, many begin making New Year’s resolutions. While the popular resolutions are eating healthier and exercising more, some people consider less than apparent improvements like remodeling their home for a fresh look. If you are considering a home renovation once things begin to slow down, these eight home design predictions for 2018 are likely to give you a great starting point on what you should update in your home.

Color in the kitchen
While white remains the color champion in the kitchen, Houzz says you should consider adding splashes of color. To accomplish this, add colorful decorative knobs, vases, bowls, etc. Or, if you want to go bold, consider painting your lower cabinets a shade of gray or blue. Two-tone cabinets add a pop of color and visual interest.

Warm color scheme
In 2017, jewel tones were the color scheme of choice. But, it looks as if that is going to change 2018. What should you expect? Warm colors like reds, warm grays, camel, brown-blacks and rust add a rich, cozy and sophisticated appeal.

Unique sinks (kitchen and bathroom)
Stainless steel and white farmhouse sinks, while popular, are being replaced by dark, textured sinks in 2018. According to Houzz, you may want to consider concrete, stone, copper and granite sinks in darker hues.

Sink style is also changing in the bathroom. Replace your current sink with a trough or bucket sink – especially if you are looking to incorporate a farmhouse-style design into your home.

Vintage lighting
Vintage, farmhouse-style continues to win in home design. Look to incorporate vintage lighting like galvanized metal and copper pendant lights to your home in 2018.

Durable and cost-effective, concrete is becoming a more popular material this coming year. Consider replacing old laminate flooring or Formica countertops with concrete.

Accent walls are a quick and easy addition to any remodel project, and it appears like the oh-so-popular shiplap is sticking around in 2018. As an alternative to paint and wallpaper, use shiplap, millwork or reclaimed wood to create an appealing and sophisticated accent wall in any room of the home.

Custom & unique backsplash
Subway tiles, while prevalent in farmhouse design, are going to take a backseat in 2018. Instead, look for custom tiles like wood, concrete, fabric or wallpaper-like to appear in kitchens throughout the country. These unique tiles are a great way to add your own style to the kitchen. However, don’t go too crazy. Always keep the resale value of the home in mind.

Bedroom sanctuary
As the bedroom is where you go relax and unwind after a long and stressful day, it only makes sense to create a serene and calming environment. Use soft neutral colors like gray, white, cream and light blues to achieve this look.

Renovate your home with these home design trends to ensure it is in-style and up-to-date in 2018.
